MOORLAND FORUM

Scotland's Moorland Forum was formed in 2002 as a unique partnership between a diverse range of organisations to engage with issues affecting the moorland and upland areas of Scotland.

Through its membership of 27 organisations, the Forum covers issues relating to policy, practice and management. The Trust has been Administrator, Secretary and Director of the Forum during its two decades in existence; however following changes in funding from Nature Scot in 2024, the Trust no longer operates in these capacities although continues to be a member and retains it’s position as one of the founding members of the group.

The Trust recognises the vital role the Forum plays in bringing together and coordinating the diverse interests represented by the range of member organisations to achieve the objectives set for the Forum by its members. As an active member, the Trust is fully able to promote its own ethos of integrated, sustainable and resilient moorland management.

The Forum provides a platform for collaborative cross-cutting debate on the future of the Scottish uplands and its communities, and it seeks consensus on key issues affecting the uplands, founded on a sound evidence base.

By being a member of the Forum, the Trust is actively engaged in raising greater awareness of these valuable habitats, contributes to the passing of new legislation and the development and implementation of policies and initiatives in relation to moorland areas.
